- Give an example of one organisation you know which uses a
hierarchical structure. (2)
- Explain why is it necessary to have an organisation structure in a

- In 1996 the then government started privatising British Rail, with a
turnover of £ 3 billion and 100 000 staff. British Rail had five
divisions:
- InterCity,
- Provincial,
- Freight,
- Network South East and
- Parcels.
