Processing Data

Processing of data

The main purpose of using a computerised system is to enable the efficient processing of data into useful information. This involves inputting data into the system, performing the processing and then outputting the result. This gives rise to the classic 3 stage diagram given below.

Virtually all computerised systems boil down to this simple model.

In some circumstances the processing of data results in changes to the system. In these systems the output effectively becomes the input. This is known as a feedback loop and is common in control systems.
