Project Ideas
This years project is intended to be a
telephonist support tool. A Company sells most of its products over the
telephone. Telephone sales is a very demanding job and staff turn over
is very rapid. It is difficult for them to train and retain
telephonists. They decide that they need a computer system which will
create a log of the telephone enquiries made, and facilitate the
ordering system.
Requirements
- The system will contain information of availability of the product.
- The system will contain information of Cost of the product.
- The system will contain information of suitability of the product.
- The system will log the customer details whether or not a purchase is made.
- Customer details will be stored separately from products
- Each order will be given a unique number from which all details will be retrieved.
- The system will generate graphs of sales. By product type area and possibly by telephonist.
- The system will store the date and time of the enquiry.
- The system will be simple to use and require little training.
- The
system will prevent sales when no stock is available or warn of a delay
in delivery time (Depending on the company requirement)
- The system will take personal details of the customer including Name, Address, telephone number, and credit card details.
- The system will minimize the typing the telephonist has to do while on the phone.
Company l. A Multi-screen cinema. Or theatre
Special requirements: a nightly seating plan. Provides a weekly what’s
on update mechanism. Categorizes a film by age, and prevents wrong
booking.
Company 2. Specialist sports shop
Could be cycling, motorcycling, surfboarding, sailing mountain equipment etc. Other requirements will depend on the products
Special requirements: Provides information of suitability of equipment.
This means that a shop selling just football shirts for premiership
clubs would be an unsuitable choice as there is no advice element
needed.
Company 3 Computer parts
Special requirements will prevent parts being ordered that don’t work together beg.
Motherboard and chip must go together.
Company 4 A specialist music store.
For
example the shop might sell guitars, amps effects pedals and tuition
books. There is enough technical content in this area to make this a
viable project.
You may choose another potential project. But I will insist:
- That the project will allow you to potentially get a grade A
- That you can quickly find all the reliant information. - I have seen too many projects flounder in a fruitless search for data.
