Overview of NetworksPeople often confuse the style or type of network with its topology. There are two types of network. these are Peer to Peer and Client server. In a peer to peer network the computers are all equal. Whilst some may be better specked than others They all have the same network rights and access. Any machine in the network works when switched on. The Client server network has a server and a number of other less powerful machines. The server controls network communication and must be switched on first. The topology of a network is its physical layout. To an extent this includes the types of hardware used. The most common network topology is the bus network. Ring networks and star networks both have important geographically large scale uses. Most of the other types are relatively specialised.
