Microcomputer 2
These are the most common type of computer, sometimes known as a
personal computer, this section is about the laptop or notebook. Laptop machines are becoming increasingly popular. They have the advantage that they can be carried around and they can be used anywhere. The problem of connection to the internet or LAN is often overcome by wireless connection.
Laptops have an LCD display and are powered by rechargeable batteries. This is really their main weakness as the early batteries only lasted for an hour or two. Typically a new machine will have a battery life of two to five hours. However the batteries gradually weaken with each recharge, typically the batteries will last for two years. In order to make the battery last for longer smaller CPUs are used that run on lower voltages. This also reduces the heat output.
