ACTUATORS
Actuators control physical movement. They comprise of the following types
Motors
Most frequently these are electrically driven.
- Stepper motors. These allow a number of tiny descrete movements each step is accurate. Examples include flat bed scanners and some types of robot.
- Servo motors. These are where the motor moves continuously often at high speed. Examples include drills and engines to move trolleys about.
Hydrolic Actuators
These are powered by fluid pressure. these means they are slow but powerful. They are used for moving heavy equipment.
Pneumatic Actuators
These are powered by air pressure. They are less powerful but more accurate/responsive. they are often used to power robots like those used on fast moving production lines.
