Database Reports

Reports are mainly designed to allow a database to provide cogent print outs. A report can take its data from a query or a table. It allows the data to be displayed in a variety of formats. Desk top publishing features like layouts and page numbering are provided - pretty much as a standard feature in most modern databases.

You will note in the example above that the date and the number of the pages are included. This particular report is however poorly laid out as all of the details of the habitat and food are not visible. This is a fairly common problem in hastily created reports, people look at the first page and if that's Okay they print it out - its only later that the vital missing information is noticed.

Reports can be used to create letters to a whole series of contacts. The letters can appear to be personal - companies like "Readers Digest" use this as a form of advertising - this is where a lot of junk mail comes from.
