  1. The nature, quantity and quality of data often dictates the method by which it must be captured for use within an IT system.
    1. Name four different methods of data capture.(4)
    2. For each method:
      1. give an example of the type of data which may be captured; (4)
      2. state the reason why this method is particularly appropriate. (4)
  2. ‘The quality of management information is directly related to its timing.’ Discuss this statement paying particular reference to: the different purposes for which the informaton may be required; In planning the information flow within a system, where are the delays likely to occur and why? (6)
  3. A school is planning the introduction of a computer based attendance system for classes and registration groups. The purpose of the system is to produce information for the following end-users:
      • class teachers
      • tutors/head of year
      • senior managers (for example deputy head)
    1. Describe three alternative methods of collecting the attendance data for the system. (6)
    2. For each of the different end-users describe, with the aid of an example, information that the system might produce in relation to their requirements. (6)
  4. A customer of a bank wants to withdraw some money from a cash machine. Describe the information flow. (6)
  5. A particular organisation is upgrading its computer-based stock control system. The previous data collection system was OMR based. One function of the system is to allow stock levels to be monitored on a regular basis.
    1. State three other alternative methods of collecting stock control data. (3)
    2. What factors, other than cost, will determine the method of data collection? (4)
    3. The software used to control the system must support an audit trail. Explain what is meant by the term ‘audit trail’, and state why this functionality is necessary. (6) NEAB
