  4. ‘Crane Cane’ is a major producer of garden furniture. It has four factories located in different parts of the country. The managing director has overall executive control of the business. Amongst those employed by Crane Cane is a sales manager who manages a team of sales representatives whose job is to sell the company’s products to garden centres. Each factory has a manager who is in charge of production locally. The production workers are organised by a shift leader who is responsible for day-to-day matters. At head office, there is a personnel officer who is responsible for recruitment, staff welfare and remuneration.
    1. For each of the jobs shown in bold, state whether the level is strategic, tactical or operational.
    2. For each of the jobs shown in bold, give two typical decisions that would need to be made. For each decision, give two pieces of information that would be needed. (12)
  5. Describe how an EIS could help the managing director of ‘Crane Cane’ make better informed decisions. (6)
